#skolafunded: Errin Abu, Marine Science, Universiti Malaysia Terengganu

Dear all,

I’m utterly grateful for all your support. It has been a month since I completed my wonderful internship at Phuket Marine Biology Center (PBMC). Two weeks ago, witnessed by my beloved parents, I am finally a holder of Bachelor of Science (Marine Science). Now, the job hunting begins for me!

Photos below portray some of the activities that I was involved in at PBMC. I was assigned to Marine Endangered Species Unit (MESU) and had the chance to work with wonderful sea turtles, dolphins, dugongs, and whales.

Assisted marine ecology student in fieldwork at Coral Island-sediment profile, benthos identification, etc

Assisted in dugong necropsy

Assisted in treating stranded dolphin

Necropsy on sea turtle

Necropsy on stranded stripe dolphin

Fieldwork in Krabi province-sighting whales, dugongs, sea turtles, dolphins

Photo-ID on juvenile of green turtle

The highlight of my internship at MESU was being able to work hand in hand with a coral taxonomy expert, Dr. Niphon Pongsuwan. He actually was already transferred to Bangkok when our internship started. I was glad he replied to my email and made a visit to MESU to share his knowledge about hard coral identification.

All in all, it was a very fruitful and exciting experience. Again, thank you very much, dear beautiful souls, for enabling this part of my education for me. I am very indebted.

Thank you and wish me luck for my future endeavours!
